Free Nitrox for Certified Divers
Sea Saba provides complimentary 32% Nitrox to all certified Nitrox divers — no extra charge, no rental fee. Please bring proof of Nitrox certification.
Why Nitrox on Saba?
Saba's dive profiles are deeper than average. Volcanic pinnacles like Third Encounter and Man O' War Shoals regularly take divers to 90–120 feet. On a multi-day diving schedule with two dives per day, many divers appreciate the added no-decompression limit flexibility that Nitrox provides at these depths.
Nitrox also suits Saba's repetitive diving schedule well. When you're diving the same deep pinnacles two mornings in a row, reduced nitrogen loading between dives can be a meaningful advantage.
Our Air Quality Standard
Sea Saba fills all tanks — air and Nitrox — using a high-pressure breathing air compressor maintained to IANTD standards. Our fill station is regularly tested to ensure clean, dry, safe breathing gas. We do not blend Nitrox by partial pressure from industrial oxygen; we use a dedicated membrane system to produce consistent 32% mixes.
- Free 32% Nitrox on all qualifying dives
- Membrane system — consistent, clean mix
- Proof of Nitrox certification required
- SDI/TDI Nitrox courses available on Saba

Flying Back to St. Maarten After Diving
One of the most common questions we receive is whether it's safe to dive on Saba and fly back to St. Maarten the same day.
Unlike a typical commercial airline flight, the Winair Twin Otter route between Saba and St. Maarten is a short inter-island flight. The aircraft reaches approximately 2,000 feet for only a few minutes before descending for landing.
A Different Kind of Flight
For decades, divers have routinely flown between Saba and St. Maarten as part of their dive vacations. Sea Saba has operated these schedules since 1985, and many guests fly back to St. Maarten after diving under our normal operating schedule.
This short, low-altitude flight is fundamentally different from a typical commercial jet flight, which is pressurized to a much higher cabin altitude for a considerably longer period.
As with all dive planning, every diver is ultimately responsible for making decisions based on their own health, dive profile, and the guidance of their physician or DAN if they have medical concerns.
Things to Keep in Mind
- ✓The Winair flight is a short, low-altitude island flight.
- ✓Plan a conservative dive profile.
- ✓Stay well hydrated.
- ✓Follow your dive computer.
- ✓If you have medical concerns, consult DAN or your physician before diving.
Do Not Hike Mt. Scenery After Diving
Although the flight to St. Maarten is part of many divers' normal travel plans, hiking Mt. Scenery after diving is not recommended.
The trail involves significant physical exertion while climbing to Saba's highest point at approximately 2,910 feet (887 m). Combining strenuous exercise with increasing elevation after diving can increase decompression risk.
If you plan to hike Mt. Scenery during your visit, schedule it on a non-diving day.
DAN (Divers Alert Network) has published research regarding inter-island Caribbean flights, and Sea Saba can provide additional information to guests who would like to read the research.
This information is provided for planning purposes only and does not constitute medical advice. Follow your dive computer, physician, and DAN recommendations.
Emergency Preparedness
Saba is well equipped to support safe recreational diving. In the unlikely event that advanced treatment is ever required, the island is home to a DAN-certified hyperbaric chamber located at the Saba Conservation Foundation facility in Fort Bay.
Sea Saba's captains and dive professionals are trained in emergency response procedures, every dive boat carries emergency oxygen and first aid equipment, and our team maintains established emergency action plans in coordination with local medical services.
While serious diving incidents are extremely rare, knowing these resources are available provides additional peace of mind for both new and experienced divers.
Safety Resources
- ✓DAN-certified hyperbaric chamber
- ✓Located at Fort Bay
- ✓Emergency oxygen on every dive boat
- ✓First aid equipment onboard
- ✓Experienced professional dive staff
- ✓Emergency action plans for all dive operations
Dive Accident Insurance Recommended
Sea Saba carries oxygen and first aid onboard, but we strongly recommend all divers carry personal dive accident insurance. Short-term coverage through DAN covers a single trip and is available right up until departure. Comprehensive travel insurance covering medical evacuation is also strongly recommended.
