New Saba Phone Numbers!

Originally scheduled to go into effect during July or August 2000, new telephone dialing instructions for Saba have recently become efffective without any prior notice. Effective immediately if having any trouble completing your calls to Saba, use 599-416-xxxx. Needless to say, we're not certain whether this may simply be an early mistake by the local phone company, so be prepared to revert back to the 599-46-xxxx dialing sequence at any time should the new dialing sequence fail and when in doubt e-mail us at divemaster@seasaba.com. At the same time, we're not exactly sure why an island of about 1500 people needs all the extra exchanges that this change offers... rest assured we're not growing that fast and as for us, we're punching in so many numbers for local calls and to dial St. Maarten that you'd think we were calling Argentina!

We're sorry for any inconvenience you may experience, but it caught us just a bit by surprise too! While late season Hurricane Lenny dealt us a major setback in November just before our peak season, some three months later Saba is quickly returning to normal. While the loss of our two boats as well as damage to our Fort Bay workshop has kept us extremely busy, the arrival of the Giant Stride in mid-January has put us back on an even keel. John has spent most of his time since Lenny racking up frequent flier miles, and currently is on Grand Cayman readying our second boat, the Real Professional Diver, for its new home on Saba and with the establishment of Saba's newest dive site we're back on track. Inspired by Saba's natural beauty, many fine artists call Saba home. In this issue of Surface Intervals, we feature one such artist, Heleen Cornet, who's transforming one of Saba's churches into our own version of the Sistine Chapel.           

Lenny's impact has even been felt on our web site where we recognize that some of the information and content is now outdated. Just as we've taken the time to rethink our business strategy in the wake of Lenny, so too will we be taking the time to update our web site content in the weeks ahead. Nevertheless, we were very pleased to note that Sea Saba's web site was recognized by ForbesBest.Com as being among the Best of the Web in both their print and online editions under the Travel/Scuba category .
