She's not just another pretty face. She's Sea Saba's new mascot! Seneca was named after the town where she was rescued. She and her 4 siblings were born in and eventually rescued from a drain pipe in the middle of a Chicago winter--which perhaps accounts for her crying when left alone. Just Animals Shelter in Seneca, Illinois, takes advantage of the petfinder.com network to help place animals in need of rescue. Seneca is named after this small community and the strong Native American Indian Tribe that once lived there before the days of Louis and Joliet. Lynn's from Joliet and when she was in the area of the International Adventure Travel Show, she found Seneca. Puppy Love

Girl Seneca is adapting to her new Caribbean paradise. Many hours are now spent sleeping (and growing!) on our Windwardside office floor but she is busy exploring hiking trails with her first swimming lesson coming soon. John is in charge of her regimented training--she has big paws to fill as Kodiak was not only mellow and gentle with visitors but voice trained. The shelter told us she was predominantly yellow Labrador with some German Shepherd. The more she grows the more she appears to be 100% mutt but mostly shepherd with some husky--a curled tail and a bit of attitude.
Filling the void for many customers missing their own dogs Seneca has loads of great interaction with divers, children and as you can see from this photo, other visitors like Scooter (the islands' only ferret) and Sa-Chi, the Akita who she hikes with daily. Her water bowl is open to all friendly 4-legged visitors...

So how did the Saba Feral Cat Program teach Seneca to be less selfish? Sea Saba's office is next door to The Peanut Gallery. The Peanut Gallery (Saba's art gallery for the people) is owned and operated by Jim and Judy Stewart. Together with Mike and Sally Myers, the Stewarts donate loads of energy into controlling Saba's feral cat program--a no kill program that aims at reducing the population of feral cats by adoption, spaying and neutering thereby better protecting Saba's endemic species. Well, one day last summer one of the cat traps designed to capture small cats instead caught a tiny, timid, frail puppy which Judy brought in to nurse back to health. Carolyn of Sea Saba's office staff immediately fell in love with this Saba version of a Chihuahua...it took Seneca a few weeks... In those few weeks, the puppy discovered good health care, good food and a whole lot of attention...shaping a sparky personality, a fearless disposition and the perfect playmate for Seneca--one that keeps her young but reminds her she's not the only cutie on the block. The derivation of her name?? Carolyn thought since she was such a wee thing and came in to her life via The Peanut Gallery, that "Peanut" was quite suitable. When Dutch boyfriend Alex first set eyes on her, the compromise was to dignify her name with some Dutch influence--hence, Peanut became Pinda, the Dutch word for peanut. Depending upon the social schedules of Seneca and Pinda (personal trainers, the salon, photo shoots) you may or may not find one or both of them in the office. If you catch a play period, you too will wonder if perhaps Pinda was a cleaner shrimp in her first life...
